Kaohsiung, formerly known as Takao, has the largest port in Taiwan—Kaohsiung Port. Kaohsiung City and its streets developed because of the existence of the harbor. Owning to the various functions of a harbor, Kaohsiung is characterized as being a city of migrants, industries, the military, etc. Hence, harbor growth plays a key role in creating today’s Kaohsiung.
Based on a natural lagoon, Kaohsiung Harbor was engineered into an excellent port, and further expanded to be a modern commercial port with two accesses.
Over the years, the Harbor has evolved in time and space, and continued on its journey.
